Person seriously injured after being buried under dirt pile in Walker

A person was seriously injured after being buried in a pile of dirt in Walker Wednesday afternoon, the Walker Police Department said.

WALKER, Mich. — A person is seriously injured after becoming buried in a pile of dirt Wednesday afternoon.

The Walker Police Department is calling it an "industrial accident" and said it occurred at 2:31 p.m. in the 700 block of Maynard Ave SW in Walker.

When first responders arrived at the scene, the person had already been removed from the dirt pile. The first responders transported the individual to the hospital with serious injuries, police said.

Walker Police said they will report the incident to the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA), who will complete an investigation into the accident.

Police said that there will be no more information provided on the incident until MIOSHA can conduct their investigation.

“MIOSHA has initiated an investigation of the incident that occurred in Walker on February 28, 2024. MIOSHA cannot provide information on an open investigation. Typically, this type of investigation may take several weeks or months to complete.”
