18-year-old killed, 19-year-old seriously injured in Plainfield Twp. crash

A Volkswagen Jetta was traveling northbound when the driver lost control. The car left the road and hit a tree, according to deputies.

KENT COUNTY, Mich. — An 18-year-old was killed and a 19-year-old was seriously injured Thursday night in a crash in Plainfield Township.

The crash happened on Jericho Avenue near Peter Creek Drive around 8:30 p.m. A Volkswagen Jetta was traveling northbound when the driver lost control. The car left the road and hit a tree, according to deputies.

The driver, a 19-year-old woman from Plainfield Township, was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

The passenger, an 18-year-old Grand Rapids woman, was killed.

Deputies are now investigating what led up to the crash.
