MT PLEASANT, Mich. — Michigan State Police (MSP) troopers in Mt. Pleasant responded to a plane crash Thursday morning.

Police say the plane was a crop duster that crashed in a hay field. The pilot was not injured in the crash.

The plane was flying too low, which led to a landing gear hitting the ground and causing the plane to crash, authorities said.

Crop dusting planes, or aerial application planes, routinely fly low to the ground to apply fertilizers, pesticides or other chemicals on crops and farmland.

Crop duster pilots will sometimes fly as low as 10 to 15 feet above the ground, according to Aerospace America.
