SPRING LAKE, Michigan — A young man was taken into custody after a police chase, Ottawa County officials say.

It all started around 6 p.m. Tuesday when a suspect shouted he was in a stolen car and flashed a pistol outside the Grand Haven YMCA, dispatch says.

The vehicle has front-end damage and matched the description of a car involved in a hit-and-run just an hour earlier near Robbins Road and Lake Shore Drive in Grand Haven Township.

A police chase quickly ensued on the car.

A deputy spotted it in the area of US-31 and Jackson Street and followed it northbound on US-31, deputies say. The suspect did not stop for police and drove off erratically.

Deputies were able to box the car in on E Savidge Street and Lake Avenue in Spring Lake, near Front Porch Ice Cream Shop.

The driver was taken into custody at the Ottawa County Youth Home on several felony charges. Nobody was hurt in the chase.

E Savidge was closed while police investigated, but has since reopened.
