PORTAGE, Mich. — A 21-year-old man is dead and a woman is injured following a crash between a motorcycle and an SUV Sunday afternoon.
Portage police and fire crews were called to an area near the intersection of Oakland Drive and Ridgefield Avenue around 1:20 p.m. for the report of a crash.
According to the investigation, a Toyota SUV driven by a 77-year-old Portage woman was traveling north on Oakland Drive and attempted to turn left on westbound Ridgefield Avenue.
Police said as the SUV was turning, a 21-year-old Portage man was driving a Suzuki sport motorcycle south on Oakland Drive at a high speed and crashed into the SUV.
The driver of the motorcycle was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Officers said the woman driving the SUV was taken to the hospital as well for non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said Oakland Drive will be closed between Haverhill Avenue and Romence Road for a few hours while the investigation is underway.
