MICHIGAN, USA — It's just the first week of December, but winter is officially making its presence known across West Michigan.
We’re expecting our most widespread and impactful snowfall so far this winter beginning Wednesday evening. A trifecta of wind, cold and snow is set to create significant challenges for both the evening and morning commutes. Winter Storm warnings have been issued for a vast majority of West Michigan because of these impacts.
All this to say: the snow is on its way. With it comes crashes, slide-offs and dangerous driving conditions.
There are places you can go to check out the conditions of the roads in real-time to help you plan your trips accordingly — or cancel them altogether.
To check the condition of state roads and highways, visit MDOT's Mi Drive Map.
On X, MDOT West Michigan will often post updates on the roads in Allegan, Barry, Ionia, Kent, Mason, Mecosta, Montcalm, Muskegon, Oceana, Osceola and Ottawa Counties on their account.
Michigan State Police Districts also share major traffic updates on their X account.
Many local governments and police departments will also share major traffic updates on their Facebook pages, too.
