MICHIGAN, USA — Michigan has been revealed as one of America's biggest gambling states, according to new research by Legal US Poker Sites.
Whether it's through betting on a sports game or visiting a casino, Legal US Poker Stars ranked Michigan as the state that gambles the ninth most in the United States.
To gather the research, they looked at these specific factors in each state where gambling is legal:
- The search volume for gambling/casino related terms per month
- The number of casinos in each state
- The estimated spending on gambling per person (state gambling revenue/population of +18)
- The estimated percentage of peoples' income that is spent on gambling (spending per capita / average income *100)
Once researchers analyzed all of these factors, they were put into an index that gave each state a score out of 100.
Michigan's index score was 21.99/100.
Researchers said Michigan has continued the trend of ranking lower in comparison to states that recently legalized gambling.
