The old Childsdale Paper Mill in Rockford has been empty since 2001, but soon it will have new life.
The property was donated to Bridgeway Community Church in 2011, and since then the church has been doing environmental work on the property. The building will soon be the congregation's new home.
Tuesday, they broke ground on the renovation project.
The property that many in the area consider an eyesore will have a complete new look, with glass around the top and side. Wolverine Building Group is doing the construction and plans to have the church ready in the Spring of 2017.
Bridgeway Community Church will have access to the Rogue River which runs along the property, allowing for access to fishing and kayaking.
Pastor Ron Aulbach says they will be more than just a building for the community, "We really hope that this becomes a place where people in the community can come enjoy church, as well as the outdoor activities we have on site."
The church will also have an outdoor ampitheater for outdoor weddings and concerts.
