ROCKFORD, Mich — A piece of West Michigan history since 1990 is headed to its new permanent home out of state.
Rosie's Diner is located at 4500 14 Mile Road. just east off US-131, north of Rockford. People remember it for its iconic neon sign, which is being packed up and shipped to its new home.
The diner itself is originally from New Jersey and was used to shoot those classic Bounty paper towel commercials, starring a fictional waitress named Rosie.
Artist Jerry Berta helped move it here in 1990 and set up an art studio next door.
He says the diner has been sold to a couple in Missouri.
"What's going on here today is they're taking the Rosie's sign. The whole diner's getting moved down on Missouri, but they're taking the sign first and the diner next. Chuck and Dawn Perry bought it and they're going to restore it. He's a car restorer, and she runs restaurants. So, it's like the perfect fit," said Berta.
The original Rosie's diner came in two sections. Both will move to Missouri for their next chapter.
The third building on the site, Jerry's art studio, will stay there until a buyer can be found.
