GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A week after her death, 25-year-old Ruby Garcia will be laid to rest Friday, March 29.
Garcia was shot and killed on March 22. She was found along US-131 with multiple gunshot wounds.
25-year-old Brandon Ortiz-Vite confessed to her killing days later. He is facing felony murder, open murder, carjacking and two weapons charges in her death. It is believed that Garcia and Ortiz-Vite were in a relationship.
Since then, Garcia has been remembered as a loving, funny person who could brighten any room.
"Ruby's love for plants and traveling came nothing close to her affectionate smile that illuminated the room or contagious laughter that recreated the atmosphere," reads her obituary. "She cared so deeply for the people around her—so kind and passionate. She's made an impact on many lives. She will be forever missed."
Following Ruby's death, her family spoke out to share more about who she was.
"I honestly don't have no words to explain how loved my sister was and the kind of person she was," said Mavi Garcia, Ruby's sister. "She was just that funny person, a loving person."
A visitation will be held at Beuschel Funeral Home from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. At 1 p.m., her funeral service will begin, also at Beuschel Funeral Home.
Flowers can be purchased and sent to the family and memorial trees can be planted in honor of Ruby here.
Ruby will be buried at Blythefield Memorial Gardens, which donated a plot to honor Garcia and help her family with the expense. You can read Ruby's obituary here.
