SAUGATUCK, Mich. — No surprises here. Saugatuck was just crowned as a winner on the list of the top 10 “Best Coastal Small Towns” by USA Today.
Saugatuck was the only Michigan town featured on the list of the nominees, claiming the second spot. Stuart, FL took first, while Key West, FL, Gulf Shores, AL, Pismo Beach, CA and Newport, RI, trailed behind in that order.
"It's such an honor for us to be recognized as a leading destination alongside such a remarkable list of scenic coastal towns," said Lisa Mize, the Executive Director of the Saugatuck Douglas Area Convention & Visitors Bureau.
The town, nestled beside Lake Michigan in Allegan County, is home to award-winning beaches, spas, breweries, art galleries and more. It's known for its beautiful wedding venues, wineries and spacious parks.
"Saugatuck holds a special place in the hearts of both visitors who return annually and locals who consider it their home. With our expansive Lake Michigan shoreline, our beaches that have received accolades, quaint downtown streets, and breathtaking dune scenery, the Saugatuck Douglas region stands out as a truly special place that everyone should experience," Lisa said.
