IONIA COUNTY, Mich. — The Ionia County Sheriff's Office (ICSO) has been searching for a kayaker who went under in Sessions Lake on July 14. Three days later, with no luck in finding the missing kayaker, the search has been updated to an accidental drowning.

The ICSO is still searching for the kayaker with help from the Michigan State Police Dive Team and the Department of Natural Resources.

"Sessions Lake is very deep and has numerous features that have hampered the recovery to date," said a release from the ICSO.

While the search continues, the DNR and the DNR Sessions Lake Park staff has closed the lake to fishing and recreation until search efforts have been exhausted. The ICSO said this will help in the recovery efforts.
