GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — It's almost that time of year again, when you need to check which side of the street you are parking on in Grand Rapids to avoid a ticket.

Beginning on Friday, Nov. 1, 2024, odd-even and same-side parking restrictions begin in Grand Rapids until April 1, 2025.

The parking restrictions are to allow city street sweepers and snow plows to more easily access neighborhood streets when clearing leaves, debris and snow through the fall and winter.

“We need the community’s help as we work to clear streets of leaves and other tree debris that naturally fall into the road,” said John Gorney, public works director. “Following the parking restrictions allows us to effectively clean the streets and ensures we don’t have flooded streets this winter due to clogged catch basins.”

Odd-Even Parking Restrictions

  • Even numbered day: No parking on odd numbered side of the street from 1 a.m. until 6 p.m.
  • Odd numbered day: No parking on even numbered side of the street from 1 a.m. until 6 p.m.
  • Daily: Parking is permitted on both sides of the street from 6 p.m. until 1 a.m., unless otherwise indicated.

Same-Side Parking Restrictions

  • Grand Rapids streets with same-side parking restrictions require residents to park only on the designated side of the street from Nov. 1 through April 1.
  • On some of the narrowest of streets, there might not be any parking allowed.

Vehicles not following the restrictions could be ticketed $20.
