1 person has minor injuries after crash between 2 semi-trucks on westbound I-96

Deputies said westbound I-96 was closed for several hours due to the amount of debris on the road, but it reopened at around 6 a.m. Saturday.

IONIA COUNTY, Mich. — One person has minor injuries after a crash involving two semi-trucks on westbound I-96 on Saturday, according to the Ionia County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said around 12:35 a.m. they responded to a crash involving two semis on westbound I-96 near Hastings Road in Boston Township. 

ICSO said the preliminary investigation shows that a semi was parked on the shoulder of the roadway when another semi traveling westbound crashed into it from behind.

One of the drivers had to be pulled out of the cab of the vehicle by first responders and was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, ICSO said.

The other driver was not hurt, deputies said.

ICSO said westbound I-96 was closed for several hours due to the amount of debris on the road, but it reopened at around 6 a.m.

The crash is under investigation.
