BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Sen. Bernie Sanders has plans to rally with striking workers in Battle Creek this week.

In early October, about 1,400 members of the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union at plants in Michigan, Nebraska, Pennsylvania and Tennessee went on strike against the Kellogg Company.

Workers are asking for an increase in their pay after they worked long hours and overtime for the past 18 months during the pandemic.

The Vermont senator, a staunch supporter of unions, says "I'm going to Michigan to stand with the workers."

In December, Kellogg's and union representatives reached a tentative deal with cereal plant workers, but workers ultimately rejected the deal.

After negotiations fell through, the Kellogg company said they have started the hiring process to replace the workers.
