SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. — Fans of Sherman's Dairy Bar in South Haven, we have terrible news.

After 66 years of serving their iconic ice cream, Sherman's announced this season will be their last.

"We know many of you have fond memories of a scoop at Sherman’s. We would love to see you before the season officially ends," staff wrote on Facebook Tuesday.

Located at at 1601 Phoenix Street, Sherman's is known for their classic flavors as well as their Michigan favorites.

Grandpa Sherman started the business back in 1916 as a dairy farm, their website says. He originally had a small herd of cattle and horses that delivered milk house to house in South Haven.

The business was eventually passed to Sherman's grandsons. One of them, Port, started fiddling with an old ice cream batch in the freezer. After perfecting his recipes, he sold it house to house, then to ice cream stores, then to grocery stores.

Port bought out his brothers and stopped bottling milk stating confidently, “We’ll just make good ice cream," their site says.

Thus, a legacy was born out of Sherman's.

In 2019, they stopped producing their own original favorites. There was such an outcry from loyal customers that Hudsonville Ice Cream announced they would produce the flavors for the 2020 season

Staff say they hope their customers share memories in their Facebook comments and stop by to make their last season a memorable one.

Their last day will be October 26.
