GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Shinola Detroit has officially opened its doors in downtown Grand Rapids.
Founded in 2011, Shinola specializes in watches, bags and accessories, jewelry, bikes and lifestyle items.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. and included special remarks from Scott Zimmerman, shopping, personalization from Lettered. It and music by DJ AB. There were also truffles and hot chocolate from Mokaya.
A giveaway was held for the first 100 customers at the grand opening, which will be repeated on Saturday.
Saturday will also feature complimentary cider and donuts and more music from DJ AB.
In November, the opening of the shop was delayed. However, a spokesperson for the company, Jennie Schumacher, said it wouldn't affect Shinola's presence in downtown Grand Rapids and they were planning to open in time for Valentine's Day shopping.
"Our strategy has always been to open our doors when a store is ready rather than make compromises to meet a deadline," Schumacher said. "We are very excited to grow our footprint in Grand Rapids and are encouraged by the overwhelmingly positive reception our new store has received."
There are currently 22 locations open, spanning from Michigan to New York and Hawaii.
