Suspect in custody after Berrien Co. shooting leaves 1 dead, 1 injured

According to deputies, the suspect was found and taken into custody without incident.

EAU CLAIRE, Mich. — One person is dead and another is injured after a shooting in the Village of Eu Claire after midnight on Saturday, according to the Berrien County Sheriff's Office. 

Deputies said around 12:45 a.m. BCSO, Berrien Springs Police, Michigan State Police, Benton Harbor City K9 and an ambulance responded to a report of a shooting. 

BCSO said the incident happened at the intersection of Main Street and Elm Street. 

When deputies arrived, they found an unresponsive man who was shot with life-threatening injuries and a second man who was shot with non-life-threatening injuries. First responders treated both victims and they were taken to a local hospital. 

Deputies said the unresponsive man who had life-threatening injuries died at the hospital. 

BCSO said thanks to the help of a witness, a suspect was developed quickly. 

According to deputies, the suspect was found and taken into custody without incident. They're being held at the Berrien County Jail on multiple charges.
