'It was just a disaster' | Shots fired call reported near Fruitport's Old Fashioned Days

"This lady was so scared, she had to throw her kids under a carnival ride, just breaking down crying, not knowing what's going to happen... It was just a disaster."

FRUITPORT, Mich. — A shots fired call was reported at a popular festival in West Michigan.

Muskegon County Dispatch told 13 ON YOUR SIDE the call came in around 10:30 p.m. Saturday night. It was made near Pomona Park, where Old Fashioned Days Festival is underway in Fruitport.

Officials were unable to confirm if anyone was hurt at this time.

Aaron Underwood and his five kids were there to witness it all. He said they were having a great time, enjoying the rides, the music and food when suddenly, the atmosphere shifted.

He and his family saw 50 to 60 people running to an exit, he says. Then he heard two shots ring out seconds later.

"There was a gentleman who came up to us who said, 'You guys need to be safe. Someone has a gun. You guys need to get out of here,'" said Underwood.

Underwood and his family picked up all of their kids and ran for the exit in a corner of the carnival.

"People are panicking. This lady was so scared, she had to throw her kids under a carnival ride, just breaking down crying, not knowing what's going to happen," he said. "It was just a disaster."
