WHITE CLOUD, Mich. (WZZM) -- A former White Cloud police officer will spend time behind bars for lying to police during the investigation into the 2004 murder of Amanda Lankey.

Candace Wallis-Baumgartner pleaded guilty and was sentenced Monday. In exchange for her plea, prosecutors dropped a perjury charge.

Investigators were focusing on Wallis-Baumgartner's brother, Cecil Wallis, as a person of interest in Lankey's death. Wallis committed suicide in 2011 and was never charged. Authorities say Wallis-Baumgartner's lie to police was not related to Lankey's death.

13-year-old Amanda Lankey vanished from a friend's house in White Cloud in June 2004. Her body was found two weeks later in the Manistee National Forest. An autopsy found she died of blunt force trauma to the head.

Wallis-Baumgartner was sentenced Monday to 30 weekends in jail. She must also take a polygraph test regarding the investigation.
