ROCKFORD, Mich. — It's pretty cool to see your daughter perform in the Rose Parade on national TV. It's even cooler to see it happen two years in a row, for two different daughters.
"It was fun, I caught a glimpse over and that's all you need, you know is that one quick glimpse," said Katherine Archer-Sullivan, mother to Macy and Jansen. "It's amazing that both my daughters had this experience."
Katherine's oldest daughter, Jansen, performed in the color guard during this year's parade in Pasadena, California for the University of Michigan's Marching Band.
Last year, her youngest, Macy, traveled with the Rockford High School Marching Band for the same parade.
"I do brag a little bit because I get to go before her," said Macy about last year's performance.
Macy followed in her sisters' footsteps and also joined the school's color guard in high school.
"I never even thought I was going to do color guard like my sister," said Macy. "And so it's just like, such a small decision was like, really cool like that. I got to be on like national TV. I never got to experience anything like that."
For Katherine, the process of watching bands and floats to get a glimpse of a familiar face was fun in and of itself, and she's happy that the color guard is getting some well deserved recognition.
"Just even highlighting the fact that these these kids that are in marching band and color guard, put in all this time and effort for literally just a split second on television," said Katherine. "But what an incredible experience to have in realizing that there's so many supporting things that happen to support these football teams as they compete."
