HESPERIA, Mich. — With Santa officially coming to town in Hesperia, it means it's time to celebrate for the locals.
"The hot cocoa and cookies," was the response of one child excited for Friday night's festivities.
And it was a celebration that went on, despite the bitter cold air.
"It's amazing, just a small community coming together like this, it's great," said two parents waiting in line for Santa with their family. "I'm very happy that small towns are starting to do this and more part of the community. I think it's great."
With Thanksgiving officially over, the village kicked off its 6th annual Light Up the Park.
Filled with tree lightings, live music from the marching band, and kids telling Santa what they want for Christmas.
For Scott Rumsey, one of the organizers of the Light Up the Park celebration, seeing the hundreds of people braving the cold and celebrating Christmas together is what it's all about.
"We feel like it's the small size of our community, we draw pretty much everyone from our area," said Rumsey. "The events that we have are all focused on kids and having a good time and getting ready for the holidays."
