JENISON, Mich. — The county clerks for Kent and Ottawa have had a busy week of early voting.
"Each of our jurisdictions has one early voting site," said Lisa Posthumus Lyons, the Kent County Clerk. "With the exception of Grand Rapids, they have four."
"Any resident can vote at any of the four sites," said Ottawa County Clerk Justin Roebuck. "So that's definitely a great option.
Early voting ends Sunday, and depending on where you live, there may be a line.
In Grand Rapids Thursday afternoon, that was not the case at DeVos Place in Grand Rapids, one of four early voting locations in Grand Rapids.
"At the most 10-15 minutes," said Kenneth Harris who cast his vote on Thursday. "I like it because, I mean, you get to vote when you want to, you know you put it you can situate it around your schedule."
"It was very short," said Kris Bennett who also voted at the Devos Place. "I had an absentee ballot, which they told me I could just fill out and use my own ballot. So I filled it out. The longest part was just waiting in the little line to get checked in."
Ottawa County has four voting locations. At the site in Georgetown Township, wait times have gotten close to an hour.
"It was about 45 minutes and it was super nice in there," said Gavin Ashley who waited in line Thursday afternoon. "It was both of our first times voting so it was overall a good experience."
"I felt like the line was moving faster than what it appeared to so it was actually a good experience even though we had to wait," said Isabella Atkins.
Ottawa County Clerk Justin Roebuck said throughout their four early voting locations, they're doing their best to make the wait as short as possible.
"We try to do everything that we can to mitigate that and make, make sure that the traffic is flowing really well," said Roebuck. "And so we brought on additional staff, we brought on additional check-in stations for voters to process their information and make sure that they get the ballot that they need, and so that has really helped us quite a bit."
