Two people, dogs escape South Haven house fire

Firefighters were on the South Haven Township scene for more than three hours.

SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. — Heavy flames traveled from a South Haven Township home Thursday morning to a trailer behind the home. 

South Haven Area Emergency Services first got the call around 8:45 a.m. to a property on 73rd Street near 6th Avenue. 

According to fire officials, crews were met with heavy flames when they made it to the home. 

The fire spread to a trailer behind the home. 

Two people made it out safely along with two dogs, fire officials said. 

They woke up to the sound of an explosion. 

Crews had to run a water supply line several hundred feet to the closest fire hydrant. 

Firefighters from Bangor Community FD and Covert Township FD helped out, while South Haven Police provided traffic control.
