ALLEGAN COUNTY, Mich. — One person is dead and another is injured following a crash on southbound US-131 in Allegan County.
Deputies say the crash happened at Exit 49A near Plainwell around 6:11 a.m. The southbound lanes were completely shut down, causing major traffic backups, until about 11 a.m.
Police say a pickup truck was traveling southbound on the highway when it hit a disabled SUV on the shoulder.
Two people were outside working on the car when it was hit. One was dead by the time first responders arrived. The other was seriously injured and taken to the hospital.
The man driving the truck was uninjured. He was arrested and is awaiting arraignment for charges related to the crash.
The highway has since reopened.
