S.S. Badger set to cross Lake Michigan again following repairs

The operators of the Lake Michigan Car Ferry say they received approval from the Coast Guard after finishing the repairs Monday night.

LUDINGTON, Mich. — After being docked due to an electrical issue, the S.S. Badger is set to cross Lake Michigan again on Tuesday morning.

The announcement that the S.S. Badger has been repaired came late Monday night after two days of cancelations.

The electrical issue was first noticed Saturday night when the boat was making its crossing from Wisconsin to Ludington. One viewer told 13 ON YOUR SIDE that his wife was on the ship at the time, saying it lost power.

Officials said the issue was quickly identified and the ship was able to safely make it to Ludington before they could stop and make repairs.

Crews began working on the issue, but it led to voyages for Sunday and Monday being canceled.

The operators of the Lake Michigan Car Ferry say they received approval from the Coast Guard after finishing the repairs Monday night.

Officials with Lake Michigan Car Ferry said they are hoping for patience from passengers who were impacted by the cancelations.

"We're trying to be as understanding as we can be, and we hope there'll be understanding with us," said spokesperson Thom Hawley. "These issues do come up in transportation, and it's important that they be fixed so that the problem doesn't arise again."

The S.S. Badger's season kicked off early this year, after last season was cut short due to the boat's loading dock needing structural repairs.

Those with tickets affected by the cancelations can either reschedule or get a refund by calling 800-841-4243.
