HOLLAND, Mich. — The stranger accused of shooting and killing a man at a family gathering in Holland is headed to trial.
Jerell Alexander Lindsey, 27, was bound over on Thursday.
He was arraigned, charged with open murder and denied his bond on April 15.
On April 13, officers were called to the 300 block of West 19th Street around 2:15 p.m. on a report of a person shot.
Police found a 41-year-old man, identified as Miguel Raul Zamudio, in the driveway of a home with a gunshot wound to the head.
Officers transported Zamudio to the hospital and he was pronounced dead on April 14.
Police found Lindsey in a home adjacent to where Zamudio was found. Lindsey told police there was a bomb and other explosives in the home.
Nearby homes were evacuated. ATF bomb technicians came to the scene to check the home, but found no signs of explosives.
Police later determined Lindsey had no connection to the home he was found in.
Investigators said Zamudio was visiting family and they were gathered outside a home when Lindsey approached. Zamudio's family noticed he was holding a gun and began running inside the home for safety.
Lindsey continued to approach and shot Zamudio in the head. He did not know Zamudio, officers said.
Police said before the fatal shooting, Lindsey had been involved in a domestic incident at his home on Harrison Avenue. He pointed a gun at his girlfriend, who fled from the home, according to police.
