Student removed from Grandville High School after 2 threats found

Grandville Public Schools informed parents Wednesday of two threats discovered at the school, one using racial slurs and the other referring to a shooting Friday.

GRANDVILLE, Mich. — Grandville Public Schools has removed a student from Grandville High School after identifying that they were the source of two threats.

The district wrote in a letter to parents Wednesday that administrators were made aware of a message on a toilet that referred to a shooting on Friday, Dec. 15. The district says that they were made aware of the threat on Monday.

The letter said that the message found on the toilet included the phrase "[it] was no one's fault."

The district also said that a second threat was discovered in another bathroom in the school that contained a racial slur.

Administrators at the district say that the two threats were connected and that they have identified the student who made them and they have been removed from the school.

The school says they are also investigating additional messages sent to administrators claiming that a bullet was found in one of the district's buildings.

Grandville High School will remain open on Friday, Dec. 15, saying in the letter that "there is no credible threat to our high school or any other district building at this time."

Additional security and police presence at the school will continue out of caution, administrators say.

The school will not penalize students who wish to remain at home on Friday, Dec. 15.

"We understand this week has been very difficult for many in our community. Because of this, we respect each parent’s decision on whether to send their child to school on Friday. This Friday, all extra-curricular attendance policies will be waived. Teachers will reschedule and/or work with students for missed work or assessments without penalty. There will also be no attendance policy consequences for an absence on Friday."
