KALAMAZOO, Michigan — Rock band Styx and special guest John Waite will take the Wings Event Center by storm Tuesday Oct. 8.

The band hasn't been at Wings Event Center since Oct. 6, 1979, according to a press release from LiveNation.

13 ON YOUR SIDE caught up with Styx Lead Singer Lawrence Gowan. He said the band is excited for their upcoming show in Kalamazoo.

"Michigan always have a extremely enthusiastic audiences to to say the least," said Gowan.

At the show, Gowan says you can expect a mix of Styx's classic hits, with a mix of the newer songs.

Gowan said in many cases, the audience consists of people who are 40 and younger, who may not have been around when the band was up and coming. Gowan also says he sees families that have shared the bands music across generations.

"I began to notice that around 2008 2009 in that era there, I began to see, well, there's a lot of families or younger siblings that have that obviously weren't part of the era of this band coming up, but they've it's become kind of a shared thing among them," said Gowan. "And then that kind of broke a few years later, where I saw clumps of younger people that were unsupervised, and they were they seemed to be enjoying it every bit as much, if not more."

The band takes the stage with John Waite at the Wings Event Center Tuesday Oct. 8, 2024.
