Grand Rapids Police announce murder charge in October 1 stabbing

Detectives found 53-year-old Larone Crenshaw lying on the sidewalk with apparent stab wounds. He later died. Now detectives have his suspected killer.

GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan — Grand Rapids Police announced a suspect in the stabbing death of a 53-year-old man earlier this month is now facing open murder charges. 

Greggory Harris, 56, is charged with open murder in the killing of Larone Crenshaw. 

The department said they were called to Division Ave South and Sutton Street Southwest around 4:30 a.m. on Oct. 1. When they arrived, they found a man with multiple stab wounds. 

Responders then transported the victim to a nearby hospital, where he died. 

The suspect is in custody at the Kent County Correctional Facility. 

According to Michigan Department of Corrections online records, Harris had been absconding parole for an assault with a dangerous weapon conviction. 

“Our Major Case Team detectives work tirelessly to bring justice for every murder victim in our city,” said Chief Eric Winstrom. “I hope this arrest brings some measure of comfort to Larone’s family and friends.”
