Suspect in custody after being accused of shooting Battle Creek man, fleeing scene

BCPD said its Gang Suppression Unit (GSU) and Special Investigations Unit (SIU) investigated the shooting and found probable cause to arrest the suspect.

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — A suspect is in custody for allegedly shooting a 23-year-old Battle Creek man and leaving the scene, according to the Battle Creek Police Department. 

BCPD said officers were dispatched to the intersection of Cliff Street and Nelson Street shortly after 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 13, and found a man with a gunshot wound in his left thigh. 

Police said the victim reported walking down Cliff Street when a red Chevrolet pulled up beside him. He said the driver shot him before driving south on Nelson Street. 

The Battle Creek Fire Department treated the man on the scene before he was taken to a local hospital, where he was said to be in stable condition. 

BCPD said its Gang Suppression Unit (GSU) and Special Investigations Unit (SIU) continued to investigate the shooting and found probable cause to arrest the suspect. 

The suspect, a Battle Creek man in his 20s, was arrested around 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 14. 

BCPD said the suspect is currently being held at the Calhoun County Jail on multiple felony charges, including weapon and assault offenses.
