Police identify suspect on the loose in shooting death of Holland mom

The man is accused of shooting and killing Cassandra Casares, a mother of two, and injuring another man in a church parking lot in Holland.

HOLLAND, Michigan — Police are searching for a man in connection to the shooting death of a 33-year-old woman in Holland, officers say. 

The man has been identified as 27-year-old Ramses Avimael Velasco Sanabria. Police say he lives in West Olive, but they do not know where he currently is. 

On Nov. 6, officers responded to shots fired near Michigan Avenue and 22nd Street around 8 p.m. Later, they learned two people came to the hospital with gunshot wounds. 

Police say two cars pulled into the parking lot of Moran Park Church and parked next to each other. Shortly after, shots were fired.

A 33-year-old woman, identified as Cassandra Casares of Holland, died from her injuries. Another man, who police say is Casares' cousin, was hospitalized.

Casares leaves behind a husband and two children, according to her obituary. Her loved ones say she exuded happiness and fun.

Police are asking for help locating Sanabria. A $2,500 reward is offered for information leading to his arrest. 

He is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who spots him or knows information about his location is asked to call 911.
