After tricking Teacher of the Week, surprise is real treat

Our latest Teacher of the Week surprise happened just before Halloween, and although we had to trick the teacher for the big reveal, in the end it was a treat.

CEDAR SPRINGS, Mich. — Our latest Teacher of the Week surprise happened just before Halloween, and although we had to trick the teacher for the big reveal, in the end it was a real treat.

The students hushed one another ahead of the big surprise and after the big reveal Jennifer Fisher said, “I was so surprised. This was like the best surprise ever.”

Scott Carpenter is the principal at Cedar Trails Elementary School. He said, “When you’d reached out to me letting me know she was nominated, I was not surprised.”

Fisher was surprised, saying, “Aw, it makes me feel like over-the-top excited.”

She teaches first grade at Cedar Trails Elementary.

“We laugh a lot. Right, you guys? Do we laugh a lot? Yeah,” said Fisher as the students laughed along.

She’s our newest Teacher of the Week and says she was inspired by her third grade teacher at Northview.

“I wanted to be there for kids just like she was there for me,” said Fisher who added that, “When I think about teaching, I think all about relationships and I think about having fun with kids and building that sense of lifelong learner.”

Carpenter said, “She really builds that community in her classroom. She really touches the hearts of each of her families. So, we’re very proud that she was nominated to be Teacher of the Week.”

It’s an honor he says every teacher deserves.

“Education is difficult. Doesn’t matter if it was 10 years ago or today. It’s a difficult profession,” said Carpenter.

Fisher said, “There’s like so many times when we aren’t feeling like valued or appreciated. So, this just like fills my bucket and makes my heart so happy.”

“All of our educators pour their hearts into their jobs. So, we are really appreciative of you coming out and highlighting some of our educators,” said Carpenter.

If you have someone you’d like to nominate as our next Teacher of the Week, just text the word “teacher” to 616-559-1310.
