GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A 14-year-old boy is in the hospital after deputies said a pickup truck struck him in Georgetown Township Friday afternoon.

The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office said deputies were called to a crash on Baldwin Street near Walnut Avenue in Georgetown Township just after 3 p.m.

Investigators said a 79-year-old Hudsonville man was driving his GMC pickup truck on Baldwin Street when a basketball rolled into the street.

A 14-year-old Jenison boy went out into the street to grab it.

Law enforcement said the truck's driver swerved but he wasn't able to entirely avoid a collision with the boy.

Deputies said the front bumper hit the teen, causing moderate injuries.

Emergency responders took the boy to the hospital to get treated.

The pickup truck's driver wasn't hurt.

Investigators said they're still looking into the crash.
