GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A teenager accidentally shot themselves in Grand Rapids Tuesday morning, the Grand Rapids Police Department said.
GRPD said the 15-year-old is expected to be OK, and an investigation into how the teen got ahold of the gun is underway.
The shooting incident happened near Sherman Street SE and Benjamin Avenue SE around 7:40 a.m. Tuesday.
Under Michigan's new safe storage law, the law requires gun owners to keep unattended weapons unloaded and locked in a locked box or container if it is reasonably known that a minor is likely to be present on the premises.
