WYOMING, Michigan — A teenager who was seriously injured in an incident at Wyoming High School on Tuesday has since returned home from the hospital.

The incident happened around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the parking lot of the school. While police are unable to share more details about what happened, investigators originally said it appeared the teen was riding on the outside of a vehicle when they fell.

The 17-year-old, who is a student, suffered serious injuries and was taken to the hospital.

On Thursday, police confirmed the student has been released from the hospital and is now in stable condition.

Lt. Andrew Koeller with the Wyoming Police Department said it is still unclear if charges will be brought against the driver of the vehicle, as crash investigations can take a long time to investigate.

Superintendent Craig Hoekstra sent a letter to parents about the situation on Tuesday, which happened right around school dismissal.

"EMS was called to assist a student who required medical attention. Please rest assured that the situation was handled swiftly and with the utmost care," he said.

Hoekstra said school leaders are not divulging more information due to the student's privacy.
