KENT COUNTY, Mich. — Waste drop-off just got safer and more efficient for Kent County residents with the opening of the North Kent Transfer Station. The Kent County Department of Public Works (DPW) announced Monday that the new station is now open to the public.

Kent County residents and waste haulers can drop by the station, located at 2908 10 Mile Road in Plainfield Township to drop off their waste. The station's purpose is to provide a central location to hold municipal solid waste before the materials go to their final destination.

The new station replaced the former transfer station which was located at the same address. The DPW said they built the new one due to the growing population and business community in northern Kent County.

“With the growth of northern Kent County, recycling and disposal needs have nearly doubled in the last few years,” said Dar Baas, director of the DPW. “We’re proud to provide this new and improved resource that will make disposal more efficient for both residents and waste haulers.”

The new and improved transfer station includes improved wayfinding signage, separate tipping floors for commercial and residential customers and a Center for Hard to Recycle Materials (C.H.a.R.M.) that will allow residents to properly dispose of items like tires, propane tanks and electronics.

More information about how to dispose of materials can be found on the DPW’s website in its online Recycling & Disposal Guide.
