VICKSBURG, Mich. — A 3-year-old boy was found dead in a car outside a Kalamazoo area grocery store, the Sheriff's Office confirms.
Deputies now call the death "suspicious."
The call came in to the Sheriff's Office around 3:15 p.m. Tuesday.
James VanDyken, the Undersheriff, said Tuesday that the father of the little boy found him in the car after he stopped at the Vicksburg Family Fare. When police arrived, the toddler was dead.
Now, officials believe the child died at a different location. They believe the boy died at an address in Brady Township, and was transported to the grocery store before being discovered.
VanDyken says the death appears to be due to prolonged heat exhaustion.
Once the investigation is complete, it will be sent to the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor's Office to see if charges will be filed.
