OCEANA COUNTY, Mich. — Multiple summer campers and their counselors were uninjured after a tree fell onto their cabin overnight Thursday.
The Michigan State Police (MSP) said it happened just before 2 a.m. at Camp Ao-Wa-Kiya in Oceana County. A tree fell onto a cabin of 12 young campers and their two adult counselors. One of the counselors was pinned to her bed under the tree, according to MSP.
Troopers arrived at the scene and worked to free the counselor. It took about an hour and a half to do. MSP said the counselor walked away from the cabin and "appears to be just fine."
The cabin, however, was destroyed by the tree.
MSP said a trooper received a minor hand injury and was treated at a hospital.
