Muskegon Heights dog fighting ring discovered, two charged

Police removed 22 dogs and recovered a dog that was deceased after executing search warrants in connection to a dog fighting ring on Nov. 17.

MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. — Two men have been charged with dog fighting in connection to a Muskegon Heights dog fighting ring.

Anthony Amond Howard and Sharas Montrell Briggs were charged on Thursday after the ring was discovered and shut down on November 17. 

Police removed 22 dogs and recovered a dog that was deceased after executing search warrants in connection to the ring. The Muskegon Heights Police Department says four of the residences were in Muskegon Heights, and another in Norton Shores. 

Four arrests were made, three on dog fighting charges and one on a previous warrant. Police say based on evidence seized during the search warrant execution, they believe more arrests are possible. 

The Muskegon Heights Police Department was assisted by the Muskegon County Sheriff's Office, Norton Shores Police Department, MSP Troopers, MMCI Detectives, Pound Buddies and Bark Nation.
