BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Two women are in Calhoun County Jail with several charges submitted for violent felonies following a fight, stabbing and police chase on Saturday.
According to Battle Creek Police, around noon Saturday crews were called to the Baymont by Wyndham Hotel on Beckley Road for a report of 15 people fighting in the lobby.
While officers were on the way to the scene, dispatchers told them people had been stabbed and the fighting was still happening.
Police said when they arrived, the fight started to break up.
However, officers said when they tried to speak to people who they believed were involved in the fight, the people were already getting into a car to leave. The driver then ignored officer commands to exit the vehicle, backed into a patrol car and drove through a yard onto Beckley Road.
Other police officers coming to the area tried to stop the suspect car. The chase continued into Leroy Township as the driver reached speeds of 100 mph. Officers stopped chasing due to safety concerns and are still investigating.
Officers still at the Baymont determined a 28-year-old woman had assaulted several people with broken glass from the hotel lobby and was gone when they arrived.
One person from the lobby was treated for cuts and stab wounds by the Battle Creek Fire Department and a Life Care Ambulance, police said.
Life Care took a 22-year-old woman from the hotel to the Bronson Battle Creek Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Police said when new evidence arrived Sunday morning, they discovered the woman was a suspect in starting the hotel fight and she was arrested.
Following the initial hotel fight on Saturday, around 1:30 p.m. the 28-year-old suspect was reported to be involved in another conflict in the 100 block of Grove Street.
A different 22-year-old woman was stabbed with a knife, however, police say the suspect was gone again when they arrived.
Shortly after 4 p.m. on Saturday, the 28-year-old suspect called Calhoun County Dispatch and asked to speak to the police, saying she was an initial victim in the hotel fight and wanted to share her story.
Officers made contact with the woman and took her into custody.
Police said they believe most of the people involved knew each other, and the conflict started with a relationship triangle.
