WYOMING, Mich. — When snow and bitter temperatures hit our area, it’s important to remember those who work during the winter conditions.
United States Postal Service workers like Rusty Bussler said while it may seem small, a gesture like neighbors shoveling a path to their mailboxes when it snows goes a long way.
Bussler has been working in the business for 35 years, rain or shine.
“You got 95-degree weather...you know, drink lots of fluids," Bussler said. "And wintertime, you got well, obviously...you got to walk around with all the snow and all the things like that. They got their medicines, they got order packages, they got their checks coming through the mail, got their bills coming through the mail."
He said USPS workers end up being like friends or family in close-knit communities, and because of this, many people on his 624-stop route will shovel paths to their mailboxes for him.
He said this is a simple gesture that makes his job just a little easier in the elements.
“It's nice to customers make a path between the houses from one house to another,” Bussler said.
He said he and other postal workers encourage everyone to do the same so that if someone needs an important document or medication, the workers can get it to them easily and on time.
