VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. — A motorcyclist was killed Monday when he reportedly crashed into a tree that was across the roadway in Van Buren County.
Deputies responded to the area of 48 1/2 Street in Columbia Township after a caller reported a downed tree across the road and an unresponsive man in the debris.
Investigators say it appears the man, who was riding a motorcycle, was aware of the fallen tree but was unable to stop. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, according to deputies. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
He has been identified as a 38-year-old man, but his identity is not being released at this time.
While searching for identification, deputies found two grams of methamphetamine and a pipe in the man's pocket. Deputies say it is unclear if the man was under the influence at the time of the crash.
