This West Michigan tourist destination could win USA Today's Best Historic Small Town with your help

At the time of publication, Ludington ranks number one. But it may not stay that way.

LUDINGTON, Mich. — Two historic lighthouses, a maritime museum inside a Coast Guard station, lumber baron homes-turned B&Bs and the last coal-fired steamship in the country are just some of the charming attributes of the West Michigan tourist hotspot of Ludington.

To those that have been, it comes as no surprise that it's up for the award of "Best Historic Small Town" in USA Today. It's the only city in Michigan to grace the nominees.

“Ludington is a perfect historic small town nominee for the prestigious USA Today 10Best Readers' Choice Award, especially with our recent sesquicentennial celebration of our city’s founding in 1873,” said Brandy Miller, executive director of the Ludington Area Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Ludington is among 20 candidates for the 10Best Readers' Choice Awards from towns in California to West Virginia. At the time of publication, it ranks number one.

But it may not stay that way. The public can vote once daily through April 1.

Ruston, Louisiana currently claims the second spot and Wickford, Rhode Island takes third.

“We’re asking locals and Michiganders alike to support Ludington with your vote. But no matter the outcome, we already know we have a winning historic town with Ludington," said Miller.
