WALKER, Mich. — A West Michigan restaurant will have to find a new home after decades in Walker after the location it rents has been sold.
Pop's Restaurant is closed on Mondays, but typically its seats are full — the sound of silverware scraping across plates ringing across the room as customers finish their favorite meals.
"The Michigander Breakfast is our biggest seller," says owner Geremy Graig.
Geremy and his wife, Kristina, bought the restaurant last year, taking over the business that's been on Walker Village Drive since 1987.
"It's been great," says Graig. "The community's been great. This is kind of a staple and they don't want it to disappear."
Now, the location of the restaurant that customers have come to know and love throughout the years will have to change after the building was sold. Graig says he believes the new owner plans to convert the space into a veterinarian clinic.
"My stomach sank," says Graig.
He worries about his long time customers, many of which are elderly and live nearby, only able to come to the restaurant because it's close.
"If we move they're not going to be able to come to Pop's anymore," says Graig.
They hope to find a new location before their lease is up this summer.
"It's scary, you've got to move your whole entire business," says Graig.
Its the love and support from their customers that keeps the Graig's determined to find a new home.
"It makes us have a drive to find another location," says Kristina.
For now, Pop's is still open Wednesday through Sunday.
