EAST GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — One person is in critical condition and two others received medical treatment following a water rescue on Reeds Lake Friday morning, according to the East Grand Rapids Department of Public Safety.

According to the department, around 11:40 a.m. EGR public safety officers were initially called to Reeds Lake because a person was overboard and in the water.

When they arrived, officers said they found three people in the southwest portion of the lake, 500 feet from shore. Two people were still on the fishing boat, which was taking on water, and a third was in the water about 50 feet away from the boat.

Officers said the person in the water was not responding and he appeared to be on his back, not moving.

According to the department, the person in the water had lost his balance and fell overboard. He wasn't able to hold onto the boat and couldn't reach the life jacket the two people on board threw to him.

The person was picked up on the department's rescue airboat and medical treatment began while on the way to shore, according to officers. Treatment continued once they reached shore, and officers said he was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

The two other people on the boat were taken to shore where they also received medical treatment, officers said.
