Kent County community members gathered for a town hall meeting in Grand Rapids to discuss their concerns of possible water contamination.
The meeting was held one day after Wolverine Worldwide announced it would offer whole house water filtration systems to more homes in Algoma Township. These homes' well water is contaminated with PFAS chemicals, which were used in 3M's Scotchgard product.
At this point, 180 homes in Kent County are affected by PFAS.
"The whole process, the whole issue that's the problem is relatively new," said John Boon, an environmental consultant and attorney. "So what we're learning about them is evolving like crazy --there are new findings, new discoveries and people trying to look at data trying to understand the kinds of harm that these PFAS constituents can do to people."
