West Michigan beaches packed while Lake Michigan works to warm back up

At Oval Beach, an E. coli advisory was recently lifted and water temperatures are slowly climbing back up after upwelling chilled Lake Michigan waters.

SAUGATUCK, Mich. — Oval Beach in Saugatuck Thursday afternoon was filled with blankets, towels and umbrellas.

"I think it's easy to access, it's very quaint, there's plenty of room for everyone, they've got great snacks, and I love going into Saugatuck after a day of the beach," said Clara Becker who spent the day at Oval Beach with friends.

"It feels very inclusive, we can be ourselves, and it's next to Saugatuck," said Felipe Sanchez, who was also found at Oval Beach. "It's a great beach, family-friendly, we love it here."

The day comes after a recent E. coli advisory was lifted at the beach and water temperatures slowly climbing back up after upwelling chilled Lake Michigan waters earlier this week.

Becker said Oval is one of her favorites in West Michigan.

"We like to go places where there's easy bathroom access and if we want more snacks they have the great snack shack up there," said Becker. "But yeah, bringing books too and a game of cards."

And while the sun never really showed up for any of West Michigan's beachgoers, everyone still made the best out of it.

"Playing it by ear," said Connor Bowen. "Maybe go to 'Soggy', walk around and go to the restaurants. Hopefully, the sun will come out."
