Dry cleaner chain in West Michigan collecting donations after Milton devastation

Here's how you can help out Florida devastation from right here in Grand Rapids.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — It's been almost a week since a massive hurricane hit Florida. Hundreds of thousands are still without power across the state.

Hurricane Milton battered Florida's west coast while it was still recovering from Hurricane Helene damage.

From the other side of the country, a West Michigan dry cleaner is trying to help.

Plantenga's Cleaners in Ottawa and Muskegon counties are collecting donations for those affected by the hurricanes.

All their locations are taking part in coat and clothing drives. They're asking for items like sleeping bags, rain coats and hardware items.

"We just want to give back to the community, because we've been here for 62 years, and we know how supportive the community has been to us, and that's just our way to give back," said Al Plantenga, owner.

You can find a full list of needed items on Plantenga's website here. Items can be dropped off at any of their locations.

The deadline for donations is Wednesday.
