Free adaptive watersports event coming to West Michigan for first time

The event has traditionally been held in Wisconsin, but organizers decided to expand to West Michigan this summer.

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. — A free event that allows people of all abilities to participate in a variety of water activities is coming to West Michigan for the first time this summer.

The event, called At The Lake, will be held at the Action Wake Park in Hudsonville from July 11 to July 12.

It was created by the Wisconsin-based office chair company Anthros and its charitable arm, Anthros Foundation

CEO Steve DuFresne says it started At The Lake in Wisconsin in 2019 and it has grown every year. When it was time to expand, he says West Michigan was a natural fit.

"We chose Michigan because this is where we manufacture our chair. Anthros' home to manufacturing our product is in Grand Rapids, the furniture capital of the world. Why not do it here? Why not share it with the people that help us build the chair?" said DuFresne.

Activities offered during At The Lake include:

  • Cable Park Adaptive Skiing
  • Kayaking
  • Paddleboarding
  • Inflatable Obstacle Course
  • Fishing on the shore
  • Swimming
  • Track Chair Tours
  • Creative Cube Mobile Art Studio
  • Live Music

Athletes will have a chance to try multiple activities throughout the day.

"I mean, this has to happen here. This is where the expansion is, and for all the right reasons to share it with yet another group of people," DuFresne said. "You're going to have a day of smiles and pictures and tears, happy tears of I never thought they'd be able to do this or have a day like this. So say yes, make the effort and come out."

You can register for the event as both an athlete and a volunteer here
